Ellen arrived on Saturday with the best birthday gift possible - Karl. I have to confess to being practically hysterical when I saw him standing on the doorstep Saturday afternoon. Everyone but Paul knew he'd be coming, even Frank, and it was the best kept secret ever! It was the best birthday present that could possibly be imagined. I couldn't figure out why she insisted on coming this particular weekend, with Simon left at home due to his surgery, but the tickets were purchased several months ago. We've enjoyed a great visit.
Yesterday, we went out to dinner at a seafood restaurant in the Inner Harbor. Before that, as soon as I quit crying and hugging everyone - Karl, Ellen and I (along with Seth) went to Ellicott City for a lovely afternoon of shopping. Frank was so kind to keep Paul and Hannah at home - they played, including running through the water! The weather has been that good.
Today, we all went to Mass and then while Paul was at CCD and I taught CCD, the gang went back home - then, we went downtown to Fort McHenry. Once again, here's a Key Bridge photo, shot from the fort. It was most enjoyable - warm and breezy.
I just don't know what to say - Ellen is the best daughter imaginable - kind and generous, with beautiful children; and Karl is as he always is - quiet and cooperative, smart and kind. One more thing to wonder about - how the heck did I get such a good family?

Yeah for me! I am so glad you are enjoying your time with Karl. We'll try to get him back out here in the fall.
