If you can stand it - more photos from the monastery - this time, the flowering shrubs along the path to the lower garden. I took these on my weekly trip there on Friday - I was outside for 20 minutes, sedately strolling around, and went back inside for my meeting totally covered in sweat. It was hot, but mainly it was humid! The humidity is a killer. Fortunately for me, the fellow in the post office keeps the place like an icebox, which was just fine for me, as I went there to cool off. I had taken off my little sweater that goes with the sweater-set, but I didn't want to meet Father Romano with a sleeveless shell - I had to cool off enough to be able to stand to put the sweater on again. How in the world did people live without air conditioning? Actually, the answer is that it was miserable. Reading about the Revolutionary War, the weather and the heavy forests were as much of an enemy as the English Redcoat!
