New Years Resolutions
I did a column for The Monitor on making New Year's Resolutions - basically saying that my whole life has been on sea change, why wait for New Year's to commit to change? But, then I realized that I have made one or two resolutions. When we were in Sheridan 10 years ago, I resolved to take the stairs as often as practical, and I've pretty much kept that resolution. This year, I think I'll make another practical one - to recycle. Now, I've always been pretty skeptical of recycling, but in Lawrenceville, you get one big can for trash, and two bins for recycling. The one bin is just right for our weekly trash output, but not without recycling. And, it is incrediably convenient to have the recycling bins available, plus, we have a breezeway to place said bins in a convenient location. So, now, I've been easing into it - recycling paper like cardboard and newspapers, and my water bottles and plastic milk jugs, the soda cans from Frank and Paul. But, I think I'll now make more of an effort to recycle. It might be interesting to see how low I could get our trash output. I'm thinking of putting in a garden, and a compost pile, which would take care of another one of our problems - the rent house doesn't have a garbage disposal. I really miss a garbage disposal, more than a dishwasher.
This is the "garden state" after all, right? I can see homegrown tomatoes, Frank immediately suggested watermelons and cantelope. Why not? There's a lot of lawn we could tear out. After all, I did tell the landlord I was a gardener ...

A compost pile is a great idea. I love to hear how green you want to be. It is amazing how much stuff we throw away.
