Harry Potter!
For the first time in my life, we did a "crowd" thing, and went at 11 p.m. and stood in line for the new Harry Potter book. We had a number midway through the evening, and got in about 12:30 a.m., bought the book at 1:15 a.m. after winding through the entire store, guided by a little white line taped on the floor. Not being an expert at this, I didn't bring water, chairs, food, etc., like the pros, but I did go after work and get a number. When we left, there were still people standing to get into the store, around 500. There must have been a total of 4,000 people there. Amazing. What in the world possesses someone to do this? I don't know, and I did it :) surrounded by middle-aged people dressed as Dumbledore, geeks and nerds discussing plot possibilities, eternally patient moms, squeeling teenage girls. It was eye-opening, particularly when one particularly ditzy 13-something sporting chewed fingernails complete with chipping red nail polish, started carrying on about "if I ever have sex with ..." I missed what she planned on doing in that event and can't even imagine what she might have been driving at. The woman in charge of what looked like slumber party with her daughter, other girls, and this girl had the grace to look embarassed. As I said, it was interesting ...
