Walk by faith
I was going to lead this with some smart-alack comment about having a string of good luck last night, beating JP, Paul and Frank at poker, but then I realized I'm not sure I believe in "luck." I am learning, however, about trusting in God and walking with faith. The public nature of a blog rather limits complete disclosure - during my recent job search (more on that later) one of the people who interviewed me found the blog ahead of the interview - now, there's a thorough reporter. But the poker win capped a great week.
The upshot of this is that, after months of struggle in my current job, I have been hired as the new editor of the newspaper for the Diocese of Trenton, NJ. I am so excited. I am beside myself. It has been a long, difficult journey. In two weeks, I'll be headed to Trenton - spending the week nights at Ellen's house and driving home each weekend. For months, I applied for job after job - the secular press would ask for clips, discover that all my clips are religious and assume I'm a religious freak (I think) and not interview. Papers in the South didn't want to pay the salary they assumed I'd want and didn't want to pay moving expenses. I was a finalist for a job at Catholic University of America, but I didn't get it and that's OK with me - it was a PR job and not really in my field. This editing job is perfect - and the last job possibility I had.
Who knew that New Jersey would be my destination? It is actually charming, amazingly rural and I think Frank will like it much better than Baltimore. We should be able to find an apartment or home to rent within 10 or 15 minutes of the office.
We aren't out of the woods yet - the house still has to sell, but we're on the way.

I was wondering when you'd post about the new job. Now I can talk about my new roomie, or maybe boarder.
Are you sure they didn't let you win at poker? :)
