Looking forward to the weekend
So, I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend, with trips to the grocery store and Lowe's as the highlights. I think we'll build a sandbox for Paul - he can play Army guys in the sandbox, although I know as he does it, he'll miss the neighbor boy from Baltimore and his friend there.
In sort of a ludicruous example of "managed health care" - I need to go to the eye doctor specialist for my glaucoma, but I had to have a referral from my main physician; of course, I didn't have one, so I had to get a new one, which included a complete physical - so I could go to the eye doctor. Go figure. It is probably a good thing to discover I'm completely healthy, but still ... I can't believe people would actually consider further government intervention into our health care, sort of managed care on steroids. There has to be a better way to acheive universal health care other than forcing people to buy health care (even to the extent of dunning wages). I mean, there is a reason people come from Canada where they have free health care to the U.S. for care - because it is better and more efficient. In Catholic social justice theory, there's something called the principle of subsidarity - that is, the smallest unit of society should handle a particular issue. For example, it is up to the parents to determine what is best for their children, not the government (exception being child abuse, of course). Local government is better than national government where ever possible. Somehow, we should apply this to the health care problems.
It is starting to be spring-ish. Buds are coming out on the trees, bulbs are coming up. I'm so looking forward to spring. I hope it is a goregous as Baltimore was - I must say spring was the best time of year there because there were several species of flowering shrubs and trees. Paul and I also may take a walk through the woods - its not really pretty yet, but maybe we can find something interesting to see.
