So, I drug Paul out of bed at 7 a.m. and we went off to the D&R Canal Greenway. It is a 66-mile trail throughout western New Jersey that is along a canal dug in the early 1830s by Irish immigrants to bring coal from Pennsylvania to New Jersey. Originally, mules were used to drag the barges. I'm not sure if you can walk the entire thing, but I think so. Now, the canal is just used to transport water. It was really cool, and an easy walk. We walked about 45 minutes, then turned around and came back. I just keep being fascinated by the wilderness that is blocks from the interstate. Imagine digging the canal - by hand!
