Baby chicks in the brooder today

BABY CHICKS HAVE ARRIVED!

After much discussion - as The Man says "cussin' and discussin'" - we now have chicks. My original intention to have 5 chicks has expanded into 45 chicks. We have 20 New Hampshire Red, 10 Rhode Island Red (both pictured above) 5 Golden Sex Link and 10 Plymouth Barred Rock. All are good layers, and should be able to withstand the heat and the cold in Kansas. The only down side right now is that some are what are called "straight run" which means there are roosters in the mix, and in about 8 weeks, we will be eating the little devils. Paul is already calling the entire batch "McNuggets". This gives us a few weeks to put the finishing touches on the coop and run. We've launched another adventure!

All of us agree that they are adorable!!!

Sadly, they won't be chicks anymore when we get there this summer.
