It was chicken transfer day - they are happy in their new home!

Change is hard ... for chickens

Today was chicken transfer day, as the new coop is done and the chickens were getting ready to fly; plus, they are starting to do the "pecking order" thing, and they need room to move around. It's been three weeks since we got them, so they are between 4 and 5 weeks old, except for the 5 that were the latecomers, but they should be OK in the new coop because it isn't too cold.

The Man has a chicken case that he has also used to catch barn cats, and so we just caught the chickens and put them into the case, and moved them over. Of course, they didn't want to go in, and McNugget tried to escape, but once we got there, they didn't want to get out! So, I carefully pulled them out, and then they were as happy as could be in their new spot. But when he went to put away the case, one little chicken was still huddled up in the bottom! I missed it, of course. The poor thing was scared, but I like to think it was glad to see its friends in the coop. It 's amazing how fast they stop looking like little fuzz balls and begin to look like chickens.

They look like teenage chickens. Just a wee bit gangly!
