Mommy blogger???

I was talking to a fellow graduate student today about blogs, and I mentioned my blog, and I talked about my children and grandchildren, and he said "So, you're a Mommy Blogger." Well, that set me back a bit. Particularly since, even though he wasn't necessarily being dismissive, the whole term seems dismissive. Well, you're just a mommy. And that is somehow less important than what?

Once in a while I encounter someone who says with pride "I've never read a blog and never will." Really? Well, they are missing out on a wonderful way to connect with people. Yes, some blogs are junk; yes, some are hateful. But I've been inspired by blogs, and I feel less alone as a transplant to the farm due to some blogs. Because I'm a subscriber to Grit magazine and Mother Earth News, I've become interested in rural blogs, and these are also inspirational.

I know there's a question about people who make connections in what seems like an impersonal way through facebook or blogs, but if the people you are around daily aren't interested in what you are interested in, isn't it better to seek other connections? Is it really any different than speciality magazines?

So, am I a Mommy Blogger - I guess - but that's OK with me.

Yeah, I am a mommy blogger too. Weird isn't it. I don't define myself fully by my mom status, but it definitely effects the direction and decisions in my life. I like your blog. I don't think all you talk about is your kids and grandkids. I love hearing about the farm, school, etc. So, continue on, even if someone labels your blog a mommy blog. I like mommies...
