More Chicken Adventures...

Well, we've been missing three chickens for about a week. We just can't figure out what happened to them, as they went missing when The Man was putting up big round bales of hay in the shed, and with all the activity, it was unlikely that a coyote came to eat them. One is a rooster we were going to have to eat, so I wasn't too worried, (I'm thinking, how did he know? Did he run away from home?) But two were hens, and we wondered if they were roosting in the hay shed. The question: Did they get squished by a bail, or the tractor?

Fast forward to the last couple of days, when the dog has taken to trying to dig under the corner of the hay shed, and spent a lot of time whining, and trying to take us to the shed. You know, the whole "Little Timmy's down the well?" - you have to have seen the old Lassie t.v. show to get that one. In any event, tonight The Man got out the skid loader, and took bails out to where the dog had been digging, and there was a bedraggled hen, who apparently had the presence of mind, if you can use that term with a chicken, to duck between the bails, but then couldn't figure out how to get out. I told the dog there'd better be something there, or otherwise we'd never believe her again, so today she's the hero!

The missing rooster and other hen? Who knows. Not as lucky as this one hen, apparently.
