NOT LIE DOWN
Music & Lyrics by Dougie MacLean. Published by Limetree Arts and Music

Speak your mind she said, but there are words best left alone
Try to be kind she said, for there's no grace in doing wrong
And when you're standing on your highest hill and you shout but no-one hears

CHORUS
You can fall but you must not lie down
You can fall but you must not lie down
And though you're lost in the deep of the fiddle's sweet sound

Pull in your tired wings, there's no need to know it all
Listen how the silence rings now is the time for standing tall
And when you're standing on your highest hill and you shout but no-one hears
CHORUS

Dream on little one there are flowers in your hair
And see what the time has done, scattered diamonds everywhere
And when you're standing on your highest hill and you shout but no-one hears
CHORUS

Thanks to my Cousin James for telling me about this wonderful concert with Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean. We just returned from Sunset Zoo, which is quite a nice little zoo, and the concert was in an acoustically superb little amphitheater, featuring limestone rocks for seats. Note, I think it is charming, not necessarily comfortable.

MacLean is featured on Prairie Home Companion and is popular in Scotland. He was charming, engaging and overall, a great way to spend the evening.

And, I will adopt as my new motto this song: "You can fall down, but you must not lie down." He said, in introducing the song, that people who make lots of mistakes are at least out there, living life. Whew. I guess I'm living life, because I have certainly made tons of mistakes, but I soldier on and try to learn and remain positive.
