New for the Flush PicnicI'm doing a series of photos, 8x10, framed, with various sayings for sale at the Flush Picnic to support St. Joseph Church. The picnic, where a good time is had by all, will be the evening of July 28. The other photos are at http://www.kansas-mornings.blogspot.com/
I should tell you about the origin of the "Bloom Where You Are Planted" saying. Years ago, when we were in Cheyenne, as part of Frontier Days, the military offered tours of the officers quarters on base - an areas they call the "bricks" because it is a series of wonderful brick buildings built in the 1800s. I was fascinated to go, and learn how the basements had walk-out areas because the officers horses could be kept in the basement during incliment weather; how the "servants" quarters upstairs were most likely occupied by a lower-ranked enlisted man. It was very interesting. Someone had a sign in their kitchen that said "Bloom Where You Are Planted" and I remember thinking it was particularly instructive for a military family - but I realize it is good advice for anyone! It just stuck with me, and certainly is my goal now.
