Excitement on the farm! There was some excitement on the farm this morning. The Man is keeping two first-time heifers on the property, and the second one calved. Excellent timing, as he was around and the calf dropped on it's head, and he said it would have died if he wasn't there to set it upright, and I had just enough time to take photos and make it to work after taking Paul to Basketball Camp! Now, to old time farmers, one calf more or less is no big deal, but it was very interesting to me.
It reminded me of the time I went to the Barry ranch north of Cheyenne for a story on spring calving and I took a photo I just loved of the steam rising up from a new calf and the rancher standing there, looking so pleased. It was picked up by the Denver Post, I think the only story that I ever had in the Post.
The calf seems to be saying "what the heck just happened and where the heck am I?"
