Controlled burning time again

Each spring, farmers burn the prairie around here. In our case, it is the CRP land - Conservation Reserve Program. You can see it just beyond the wheat fields. Mike and a cousin went out on a non-windy day and set the fire, then stay with it and watch it carefully. The prairie is renewed by the annual burning. K-State scientists are studying the effects of the burn on the tall grass prairie, and it is a necessary component in the health of the landscape.
