Looking over the hogs - which one will show the best?

Two chosen for the county fair in the fall.

This year, Paul will be raising two hogs. Yesterday, we went to pick out the hogs from a local breeder and Paul's friend, Wyatt, went along. It's really summer now... baby chicks and hogs!

I must say, the cows are a little smarter than I gave them credit for ... not much, just a little. It seems that earlier in the year, the baby calves were taken in to the vet for castration and shots and such, using that red trailer that is in the photo above, and then returned to their mothers. Then, recently, said calves were hauled off to the sale barn in same trailer. When we came home with the pigs yesterday, some of the cows literally came running - they thought their calves were coming back again. It was actually kind of sad ... poor cows. I really didn't realize they would have that much pattern recognition.

Farm life is rough. I'd be sad if you took my baby away. Good luck with the hogs this year!
