Limestone Rock
The Man sells something interesting and unique to Kansas, I believe. Limestone rock is abundant here; trees, not so much, particularly in the early years. So, the settlers drilled holes in the limestone layered rock, then filled it with water, and in the winter, when the water froze, the rock separated, and then they used it for fencing posts. Now, is that ingenious or what? Those old fences can't stand up to today's livestock, so they are being replaced. The rock is for sale. To give you an idea of the before and after uses of the rock, in Manhattan at today's garden tour, someone had the rock up with their name on it. Around here, many of the farmers have their address or name on it out by the main gate. My daughter has one with her name on it, marking their house, as a gift. Pretty cool, particularly when you know the story.
