Country reflections

After being seen humming the recessional hymn, and critiquing the changed "gender-neutral" lyrics, I was invited to join the choir at the church. Well, I enjoy singing and The Man had suggested I join the choir, so up to the choir loft I go. Three weeks ago was my first venture up. There's about five or six members, far as I can tell, and I'm guessing I am, by far, the youngest. But they are most welcoming. The choir didn't sing last week, and this week, I go up and they have a song book with my name on it already. Isn't that lovely? I guess they figured I'd be back :)

In any event, there's a nice older gentleman there who tells me that he used to work haying for The Man's father, when The Man was small. Then, I discover he's in his 80s, and he tells me he needs cataract surgery, but he put it off until after haying this year. Now, that is the character of the folks around here - 80 years plus and putting off surgery so he can work.

On another topic - Frank McCourt died. He gives hope to all aspiring writers. He won the Pulitzer at age 66, after writing "Angela's Ashes." Said it took him two years of dedicated writing to produce the book. And people say writing is easy. The problem is, you have to have something to say...
