End of the trail

After a wonderful evening renewing my connection with a good friend, Paul and I motored to Lincoln, Neb. Warning. I-80 is one long construction zone - very irritating. My aunt and uncle were most welcoming and we had a very interesting visit. He has stories to tell about my grandparents and great-grandparents, photos and lots of fun stuff. We got to talking about my grandparents, and he has my grandmother's sewing machine! I remember her sewing on it. He told me the story about how it belonged to the great-grandparents, and was a gift from the great-grandfather to his wife, but she refused to learn to sew, even after being presented with a top-notch machine! So, 20 years later, when my grandfather and grandmother married, my grandmother began using the machine, and my uncle told me that all the boys' clothing was made on that machine, and I'm sure some for me, too. He graciously said we could have the machine - it is a real family heirloom.

We are planning a trip in the fall when it is cooler to Ellsworth, Westfall and that area to see the original homestead, etc. We had originally planned on staying the night, but Lincoln is only a couple of hours from the house, and after being gone five days, we were twitching to get home, so they were very gracious when we decided to head home after dinner.

I will tell you the little dog was beside herself with joy when we showed up. The Man was glad to see us - he couldn't find the paper towels :)
